Ahora si la escultura.

Si no pongo estas fotos hoy, ¡Se me pasarán los días de nuevo! Por eso, aunque las fotos no son muy buenas (quería tomarlas en otras condiciones) las colocaré para poder seguir adelante.

No podré escribir en esta ocasión el tema que había anunciado: el proceso de crear en madera las esculturas de la época colonial, pues no he tenido tiempo debido a que mi asistente se fué y ¡Me ha tocado hacer hasta de chofer para llevar materiales a las obras...! El tema está prometido y es más: tengo la gran suerte de haber encontrado un tallercito que trabaja a la usanza antigua, en el que están esculpiendo en madera un Jesús Nazareno - que es el que carga la Cruz a cuestas- con todos los pasos que tradicionalmente se han llevado para hacer una escultura como éstas. Un hecho que me alegró mucho fué poder comprobar que los metodos antiguos no se han perdido: el escultor del rostro del Señor es bastante joven, y su papá es quien le ha enseñado. A Don Carlos le enseñó a su vez su propio papá. Me han dado permiso para tomar fotos del avance de la escultura, por lo que compartiré las mismas en el Arlequín.

Entrando a la finalización de la escultura de San Agustín, creo que he logrado la técnica con la que el dorado se trasluce a travéz de los colores esmaltados, se pueden apreciar en las fotos los detalles que pinté en el ropaje y que finalmente patiné para darles una apariencia de antigüedad. Estoy muy contento con el resultado.

El báculo, que es el bastón que portan los jerarcas de la Iglesia, lo hize con un trozo de alambre grueso, que por cierto me costó un poco doblar en espiral, le entorché alambre más delgado para darle un poco de interés y textura y despues l0 pinté para que jugara con la escultura. En estos momentos estoy preparando la base con la que lo presentaré en la exposición que tendremos al final del año con mis compañeros de la escuela de escultura. De esta exposición les estaré avisando oportunamente.

If I don’t finally upload these photos today, a month or two will pass by before I write again! Despite the fact that I wanted better Photographs than the ones I present, I need to get over this step to move forward.
I will not be writing about the promised theme of the method used to sculpt the wooden Colonial Statues because I haven’t had enough time to organize my material, the reason is that my assistant left his job and I’ve been very busy playing even a delivery boy taking construction materials to my job sites….! The theme is a promise, and I can announce that I found a small workshop in which they are sculpting a wooden Jesus Nazarene – Nazarenes are in the position of carrying the cross- in the traditional way. I was very happy to find sculptors that still follow the centuries old tradition in making these statues, and that the one sculpting the face of Jesus is in fact a young man, taught by his father, himself also taught by his own father almost sixty years ago! (oh! the tools they still have!!!).
I have been given permission to take photos of the process in making the Statue, photos which I will be sharing in the Arlequinblog.
Writing about the finishing of my sculpture, I think I managed a nice technique in which the golden color of the cloth I painted shines thru the colors I put on top. I am very happy with the results.
The Bishop’s staff was made with a piece of thick wire and it gave me some trouble to bend it in the spiral shape it has. I twisted a finer wire to give interest and texture to the element; afterwards I painted it to match the statue. Right now I am preparing the base on which the statue will stand in an exposition my classmates and I from the sculpture class will be holding. I will inform about this exposition in due time.
