In the Church of La Merced they have been making this Nativity with life-sized figures for some years. It is placed in the Atrium of the Church.

Inside the Church, the Nativity with the Baroque figures, very old and beautiful.

The great Churches of the Capital of Guatemala are well known for their architecture, their Processions and even for their own presence, because they give name to the different Neighborhoods of the City ... For example, I live in Barrio de la Candelaria (Neighborhood of Candelaria), and the Church of Our Lady of Candelaria is about two blocks from my house; very close is Barrio de San José, Barrio de la Merced etc. etc.

The Historical Center of the Capital City is relatively small, and the Churches, like in Antigua Guatemala abound in large numbers and it is easy to make a walking tour to visit almost all of them in a long walk.
That is precisely what I decided to do: walking from one to another to see the Nativity Scenes that the Sacristans or the devotee members of the different Brotherhoods had prepared for the Christmas Season: If in the private houses they take pains to make the Nativities so traditional and beautiful. how could they not have beautiful Creches in the different Temples? ... where in addition to the relics of all types of Colonial art there are Mysteries, many with life-size figures and that are nowadays  receiving preferential treatment in the altars of the Churches.

The Nativity of the Temple of St. Joseph was the most beautiful in the Churches this year.

My walk, in addition to healthy, relaxing and without problems of looking for parking, rewarded me with some of the most beautiful Nativity Scenes I have seen in recent years, because there seems to be a renewed interest in this matter of preparing the scene of the Birth of the Child God . Or maybe it has to do with that legacy that my friends who make the beautiful Nativities -  of which I have published photos in past years (see the ArlequinBlog of 15-9-2013 or the publication of 12 - 2 - 2012 or of the 5 -2 - 2011 and also the 17 - 1 -2010) ... have talked for years. They have passed on their art to the children who helped them make the little houses, the embrellados (Cloth backdrops with glitering dust), the sand or sawdust roads and the rivers of pure water or cellophane paper cut into strips, the lakes represented by a mirror lying flat, and lately the rocks and scenes sculpted in Styrofoam ... Those children are grown men now, and they could be the enthusiastic creators of the Nativities I saw in the Churches in this my walk that I should repeat for health reasons, not only mental but health, health ....!
